Welcher Edelstein ist der härteste?
Diamant ist der härteste in dieser Tabelle, mit 10 auf der Mohsskala. Moissanit folgt dicht dahinter mit 9.25, und Korund — Rubin und Saphir — liegt bei 9.
Was ist die Mohsskala?
Sie ordnet die relative Kratzfestigkeit von Mineralen von 1 (Talk) bis 10 (Diamant). Es ist eine ordinale, keine proportionale Skala: Der Sprung von 9 auf 10 ist weit größer als der von 1 auf 2. In der Gemmologie dient sie als schneller Vortest und als Leitfaden für Fassung und Trageeignung.
Warum haben manche Edelsteine einen Härtebereich?
Wegen richtungsabhängiger oder stofflicher Unterschiede. Disthen ist der klassische Fall: etwa 4.5 parallel zur Kristalllänge und bis zu 7 quer dazu — genau der Bereich 4.5–7 in dieser Tabelle.
